Testing Attention
Now its time to make sure that the training we have done so far has had the desired effect on your dogs behaviour. We explain how to do this in the following video.
In the video we show you how to use pace changes to make sure that your dog is paying the required level of attention to move on to further lessons.
Depending on what you can manage either walk at a brisk pace or jog for a short while in a straight line and then immediately stop with no warning. As show in the video, your dog should stop quickly as you do.
Notice how the increased pace lifts the dogs attitude. You can increase your pace at any point in training to remove pressure from your dog.
If your dog doesn’t stop as shown in the video then you should do further repetitions of lesson one and two and then try again.
If your dog is stopping when you stop then it’s time to move on to the next lesson!
